San Gimignano, famous for its medieval towers, still preserves its authentic charm. The convent and the adjoining church, from which the hotel takes its name, feature an architectural style predating the late Renaissance. During the Napoleonic era, the convent was occupied and abandoned, but today La Collegiata is a unique place where history and hospitality meet.
Discover La Collegiata and experience the authentic atmosphere of San Gimignano.
The tower of Hotel La Collegiata dates back to the 19th century, easily recognizable by the different color of its stones, which came from the demolition of nearby churches and buildings. In the 20th century, the complex became the summer residence of the Guicciardini-Strozzi family, as evidenced by a vintage postcard found at a flea market, which inspired the hotel’s logo featuring the iconic image of La Collegiata.
Later, the property was purchased by an entrepreneur with the idea of turning it into a hotel, but the project was only completed in 1988, when two Florentine entrepreneurs active in Milan’s financial sector decided to invest in the operation. This marked the birth of Hotel La Collegiata, a unique destination that combines history, elegance, and Tuscan charm.
