San Gimignano, once a thriving center along the Silk Road, still preserves its medieval charm with intact towers. The monastery and the adjacent church, La Collegiata, are well worth a visit. After the abandonment that followed the Napoleonic confiscations, the complex was reborn as an exclusive hospitality destination.
